FLL Explore History

So Many Possibilities

FLL Explore started at RoboRoos in 2021 when our FLL challenge teams were getting extra full.
This is the best way for little ones to begin their amazing journey in STEAM.  Our teams have done great things and it is incredible to watch little minds grow and experiment.

Masterpiece – 2023

We had three teams competing in FLL Explore this season, Orange, White, and Blue.
Before we started the season we did some training. We learnt how to build simple machines, using pulleys, levers and gears. We learnt how to code a robot using icon blocks with Wedo 2 and Spike Essentials. Then we learnt how to code using word blocks on Spike Prime. Next came how to use sensors and create a light show, sounds movements and make our robot brains display messages and symbols.
Each team was set a challenge to create a scene on their competition mat which acknowledges one part of this culture.
Our team model this year is a stage, which we built, motorised and coded movement. Each team has decided to build more stages for our competition mat. Many of these have also been motorised and coded for movement, sound and light.

SuperPowered – 2022

The Orange Team model showed many different sources of energy such as solar panels, hydroelectric generator, using waves to generate electricity, solar panel powered boat.
They created an electric car charging station inspired by the charging station outside the RoboRoos facilities, the segway can be charged here as it has low environmental impact.
They created motion sensor lights powered through underground cables connecting to the battery storage and solar powered traffic lights.

Teams explored where energy comes from and how it is distributed, stored, and used.
Our teams looked closely at electric cars, wind powered electricity, and how the grid distributes power.

Young minds mean new ideas, this showed when the Blue Team won the Challenge Solution Award at the FLL Explore Festival in Sydney.
The Orange Team won the Team Poster Award, and the White Team won the Team Model Award.

Cargo Connect – 2021

Our first team was formed in 2021 for the theme of Cargo Connect when a number of young minds wanted to get involved.
We used a local childcare centre as our meeting area and the Stockton Lego as a starting point.
This season was about exploring how cargo is transported, sorted, and distributed, our team spent time brainstorming and discussing the different ways in which cargo is moved.
For this season we competed virtually showing our posters and presentations online.
